One of the basic fixes you can do about your appearance is to get well-fitted clothing. This makes you look put-together and creates a good first impression. Unfortunately, it’s not easy to find a good fit while trying clothes in a changing room, as you often find the jeans do not really fit that well after walking out of the store with them. Not even to mention online shopping for jeans where you can only hope that if you choose your correct waist size, you will get a good fit on your length and thighs as well.
Let us mention a few points about how men's jeans should fit.
Overall jeans fit
One of the most common mistakes men make when buying jeans is going one size up to feel comfortable. Many feel constrained in smaller sizes, and automatically size up to get more room. This unfortunately creates a baggy and shabby look that shows careless approach to your wardrobe. Such jeans are hard to combine with any other clothing, as the final outfit will never look good – not even reaching casual style.
How should men's jeans fit on waist
How to get the right fit on the waist? The ideal jeans should fit your waist in a way that you are still able to stick two fingers in it. That leaves you some room to sit or move, but anything more than that would be unnecessary. As with all pants or trousers, you should not need a belt to keep your jeans in place.
While paying attention to jeans' waist, check out the rise, too. You will want to reach for jeans that do not reveal anything unwanted when sitting down and you will not have the constant need to pull them up. At the moment, low rise is not very trendy and that’s good –mid-rise or high-rise jeans make life so much easier without constant double-checking if everything is in order.
Thighs
Jeans should hug your thighs comfortably, but not very tightly. To establish the ideal width, try pinching the spare jeans fabric on your thigh with your fingers – you should be able to have at least 1,5 – 2,5 cm of spare fabric to ensure it will not be pulling on your knees when walking or crouching. Ideally, you should size down if you have too much spare room on your thighs, but if the waist does not allow this, have your jeans thigh width tailored to your measurements.
Ideal jeans length
Professionally said, you should aim for a half or full break on your jeans’ length. This means having a slight crease or wrinkle at the bottom of your jeans, where they meet shoes. This length will make you look sharp and elegant and you will appear taller. Length is the easiest thing to get adjusted at a tailor, so make sure you do not leave the jeans hanging on your heels.
