Interview to Stefan Dietzelt, guest designer at HockertyHockerty

Stefan Dietzelt is the Founder of the Berlin based fashion brand Director’s Cut. When he was young he wanted to become a pilot or engineer. Nevertheless he started sewing clothes for himself and his friends, since the garments that they wanted were always too expensive for their wallet.

The young guy that started his business sewing in the back rooms of his shop is today the fashion stylist of a brand that aims to offer non-conventional designs for men at an affordable price. It is a pleasure for us having him as the author of a new made-to-measure suits collection for men: Berlin Sur Mer.

1. Do you have any idols in fashion business?

Idols? Yes. I like those designers who are capable to convey their personal attitude through their work. Dries van Noten, Margiela or Helmut Lang are my favorite.

2. What does dapper style mean to you?

There should always be something feminine in a men´s wardrobe, for example some silky scarves, or a slightly feminine shape in the apparel.

3. What are 3 garments that should always be in a man’s wardrobe?

A classic everyday pant, a cool jacket and a pair of Chelsea boots.

4. What should be avoided instead?

Things like baggy cargo shorts, a field jacket and silly printed t-shirts.

5. What makes a great suit to you?

A stronger fabric, not these super hundreds, a shape that fits your body and pants that are not too long. In many suits the center back is so short that the hemline curves up in the center when you look at it from behind. That should be avoided at any cost. Finally, the sleeves should be a little shorter than the shirts sleeves.

6. What was your inspiration for your new suits collection, Berlin Sur Mer?

I was inspired by long hot summer nights in southern Europe. Do you know the book "Poolside with Slim Aarons"? You should have a look at it.
