When should I start looking for the groom suit?
Maybe you have started checking random suits just after getting engaged, but the real hunt for the perfect groom suit has not really started yet. Remember to reserve enough time for this task, groom clothes is an important part of your big day and you will want to feel comfortable and wear something you love. We recommend you to start looking for your groom suit actively around 4 months before the wedding. This way, you will not feel pressured into buying something you don’t like just because you have to and you will also avoid stress if your order is delayed or does not fit.
Should I rent or buy a wedding suit?
We have covered this topic in depth in this blog post. Long story short, if you think you will wear your wedding suit even one more time after your wedding, it is worth to buy it. It is an investment in something that will stay with you and remind you of the amazing wedding day every time you wear it. Rental suits tend to be similarly priced or just a bit below than off the rack or made to measure suits at Hockerty but will serve you only for a day and you will never see them again.
What should I wear for my wedding?
When picking groom clothes or a wedding suit, you have more options to choose from. We will tell you more about each one, so you can easily decide which one is the right one for you:
Morning coat is the most formal option of groom clothes and is traditionally worn in the UK. If you always dreamed of getting married in a morning coat, go for it. It is not very common elsewhere, but morning coats are also not super rare. You will surely feel special and like a star in this version of a wedding suit and none of your guests can overshadow you.
Tuxedos are not reserved for Black Tie events anymore. They have gradually become a favorite groom garment due to their high level of formality, various lapel options and an opportunity to stand out as a groom. Whereas black tuxedos are still mostly worn to Black Tie events, we recommend you going for a navy, green or burgundy tux with shiny shawl lapels. If you think this outfit would be too much, try wearing a colorful jacket with black pants. See our Hockerty groom nailing it!
Wedding groom suit
While groom suits are the most classic option, even they offer many different customizations to not get bored. Do you want to get married in a two-piece suit or a three-piece suit? Do you want to play it safe with navy or other shades of blue or does your wedding theme allow to play with colors?
We know it might sound frightening to get married in summer heat wearing a suit, but you can choose from many comfortable options. At Hockerty, we offer you amazing beige, light grey or even white groom suits for you to keep the sun at bay. Our selection of breathable linen fabrics or lightweight cotton materials will help you keep cool under the direct sunlight. If your wedding dress code is not strict, you can also get married in a waistcoat and use the suit jacket when the sun sets down. We’ve got you covered, and you can look elegant while being comfortable.

Winter weddings have amazing charm to them. If it snows or not, it is still going to be cold and you have the opposite problem than a summer groom. Ideal winter materials for you are tweed, velvet, corduroy, or wool. There are so many options to choose from to create the perfect winter groom clothes! Winter is also an ideal season to wear a three-piece groom suit. The waistcoat as an extra layer can keep you warm and add an additional touch of elegance to your outfit. Sounds like a win-win situation, right?
Wedding dress code
Even though we are not sure if you have had any say in it, we are sure you must follow it. It is always convenient to have wedding dress codes, so your guests will know what they are expected to wear. It will also narrow down your options to choose from and bring more clarity to your final groom outfit.
If your wedding follows a black-tie dress code, pick from the endless groom tuxedo options we explained above. A relaxed dress code varies from a classic two-piece navy suit to suit pants with a crisp shirt and suspenders. Be sure to discuss your idea of groom clothes with your bride.
We hope you found some inspiration and information about the ideal and classical clothes for groom. Don't forget that at Hockerty, your groom suit will be made to your measures so it fits perfectly and your outfit will be a pleasant surprise for your bride.
