Halloween is arguably a holiday that’s actually designed for adults, with men and women alike excited for the excuse to dress up outrageously at least once a year. With the time for tricks and treats just a few days away, here are a few easy costumes that you can create.
You may not immediately consider it but a suit is actually the perfect, and not to mention comfortable, costume to recreate some of pop culture’s most iconic characters.
With the recently released movie, the Joker is a very timely and tempting Halloween costume. You can easily recreate Joaquin Phoenix’s sinister character with a red suit and matching red trousers. Accessorize the costume with a dark green printed shirt, a bright yellow vest and brown shoes. Read more about the Joker Suit.
If you’re more inclined to Heath Ledger’s version of the Joker from The Dark Knight, released a number of years back, you’ll want to choose a purple suit or overcoat and purple trousers instead. Wear the suit with a bright green vest, a printed blue button-down shirt and a similarly colored necktie.
Of course, the key to this costume, regardless of which version you go for, is the makeup: cracked and smudged white face paint and wide red lips. For Joaquin Pheonix’s Joker, apply red eyebrows high on your forehead, paint the tip of your nose red and draw diamonds over your eyes with blue makeup. While for Heath Ledger’s, darken your entire eye area with black eyeshadow. Complete the costume with yellow-green colored, dirty and slicked back hair, which you can simply get a wig for.
|RIDDLER SUIT||WHITE SHIRT|
Following the theme of Batman nemeses, the Riddler is another costume you can recreate. This time, you’ll want to wear a full bright green outfit – button down shirt, vest, suit or coat and trousers all in bright green. Complete the costume with a green bowling hat or top hat, along with a purple neck tie, purple gloves and a cane or walking stick. If you want there to be no doubt which character you’re channeling, you can stick a question mark, or even a few question marks on your outfit.
Clark Kent -Superman
|SUPERMAN SUIT||WHITE SHIRT|
If you’d prefer to be one of the good guys, it doesn’t get any easier than Clark Kent. Simply pull any black or navy suit and trousers from your closet, and even a classic trench coat, if you like. You can virtually wear what you’d wear to the office, and just add a fitted bright blue Superman undershirt. Leave your necktie loose around your collar, and wear your white button down shirt tucked in but with the buttons undone to show off the Superman insignia. Add on a pair of black framed eye glasses, style your hair with a little tendril across your forehead and you’re the Man of Steel in disguise as Clark Kent.
Men in Black
|MEN IN BLACK SUIT||WHITE SHIRT|
On second thought, your costume can get even simpler and hassle-free should you choose to celebrate Halloween as one of the Men in Black. Channel Chris Hemsworth’s Agent H in a solid dark black suit and trousers, worn with a crisp white shirt, plain black necktie and plain black shoes. Of course, you’ll have to wear completely black wayfarer style sunglasses with dark frames to pull off the costume. You can use any small silver tube-like or cylindrical item to act as your Neuralyzer gadget, which no MIB is ever without.
Another fun and easy costume is to go as Mike Myers’ Austin Powers. Although it’s been awhile since the series of films were released, his character is still easily recognizable. Choose a bright red or bright blue velvet suit and trousers. Wear a ruffled white shirt with lace ruffles in the chest area and along the cuffs. Put on a brown wig and black framed eye glasses and you’re good to go.
Or if you prefer, you can instead channel the infamous Dr. Evil, also portrayed by Mike Myers. You’ll want to instead wear a plain grey Mao collar blazer and matching grey trousers. Of course, you can’t pretend to be Dr. Evil without a bald head, which you may need a bald head skin cap for. Now all you have to do is to put on a silver ring on your pinky, place your pink by your lip and laugh sinisterly.
|COUNT DRACULA TAIL COAT||WHITE MAO SHIRT|
No Halloween is complete without Count Dracula. There are many options to choose from to recreate the Count’s quintessential 1800’s look. You can wear a white button-down shirt, or if you have the option, an 19th century style shirt with cravat. Put on a pair of black trousers, a red vest, black shoes and of course, a long black cape. You can’t have a vampire costume without a set of fangs and some blood dripping from your lip. Take it a step further and have one of your friends dress as your victim with fang marks and blood on their neck.
